The Intelliject Story
Intelliject’s founders, Evan and Eric Edwards, have seen first hand the difficulties presented by current epinephrine delivery systems because they both grew up facing life-threatening allergies that can cause anaphylaxis. Evan and Eric, identical twins, were labeled by their allergist as some of the most allergic patients ever encountered in his practice. They grew up severely allergic to all egg products, all seafood, all tree nuts, peanuts, and many antibiotics.
Evan has had two close calls in his life, the most recent from an accidental ingestion of nuts mixed with hummus while at a northern Virginia restaurant. Within minutes, his lips and throat began to swell and his body mounted a systemic allergic reaction. He didn’t have an epinephrine auto-injector with him. Thankfully, Evan was immediately rushed to a local hospital by ambulance, receiving epinephrine to combat the anaphylactic reaction just in time. For Eric, the nightmare has been passed to the future generation, as he is the father of a two-year-old child who has been diagnosed with even more severe food allergies.
As a result of the founder’s personal experiences, they built their education around developing solutions for patients and their loved-ones facing the same challenges. Evan, with a masters in systems engineering and concentration in human factors and Eric in patient self-administration of injectable pharmaceutical products and clinical disease management as an MD/PhD candidate… The EpiCard™, Developed by patients, for patients™.
